Prototype Challenge

Don Yount

Don Yount began his racing career with Radical Sportscars before jumping around eventually landing in the IMSA series. In 2014 he would run his first full season driving IMSA Prototype Lites finishing 6th overall and 2nd in Masters. The following year Don would see similar results with a 7th overall and again a 2nd in Masters. In 2015 Don joined the ranks of IMSA’s Prototype Challenge (PC) at Austin’s Circuit of the Americas. His foray into PC racing would also take him to a podium finish at Petit Le Mans that year and an overall season finish of 20th out of 41 drivers while racing a limited schedule The following year would show massive growth for Don, again running limited events, in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Prototype Challenge. He would turn 1600 laps in 2016 and earn a 12th place finish in the driver standings. Don continues to compete in the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship driving Gas Monkey Energy’s ORECA FLM09 for BAR1 Motorsports.

Photo credit: John Thawley Taking the next step and running selected WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Prototype Challenge races, Don Yount joined the Prototype Challenge ranks at COTA on Sept 18, 2015. With Austin respectably in the books, Yount extended his exploratory mission participating at Petit Le Mans. With a podium finish at Petit, and a partial season points ranking of 20th among 41 drivers, Don now turns his eyes toward the 2016 season and the historic Rolex 24 at Daytona. Slated for the North American Endurance Championship, select WeatherTech sprint races and a partial IMSA Lites schedule, Yount is anticipating a busy and transitional racing season.
